Many businesses complain of the legal profession being out of touch with business reality. So this firm attempts to bridge the gap! I studied Law at Sheffield Hallam University before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law (now The University of Law), Birmingham, in 2005. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor in 2012, I worked for the Insolvency Service (as a Senior Examiner in the Department of Director Disqualifications), and Shakespeare Putsman (now Shakespeare Martineau), Birmingham. I completed my training contract at Lamb Brooks LLP in Basingstoke, where I worked in the commercial, insolvency and litigation teams for the majority of the three years I was there. Since qualifying, I have worked in Leicester as a litigation solicitor where, after only a short period of time, I was given the responsibility of supervising junior staff. I then joined Ferdinand Kelly Solicitors' Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department as a director in October, 2013. I have a significant local and national practice as a litigator, and have acted on behalf of a wide range of commercial clients. I have considerable experience of dealing with breaches of contract and litigating against public bodies such as local Councils and HMRC. My experience extends to other areas of dispute such as property litigation and planning law. I am also able to navigate many aspects of company and insolvency law, including bankruptcy, voluntary arrangements, liquidations and all related litigation. My experience of litigation and insolvency has given him a profound methodological understanding of how businesses function at all levels, and of how disputes can be managed to the practical and commercial advantage of every client - no matter the size of the business or the scale of the problem. It follows that I believe passionately in the exploration of alternative routes to dispute resolution. I pride myself on the strength of my resolve and the steadiness of my nerve, I remain convinced of the value of creative solutions to apparently intractable problems. In addition to my experience of litigation and insolvency, I often find myself drafting a number of different commercial agreements designed to protect businesses. As well as advising businesses of all shapes, sizes and needs, I also draw on my experience of being a business owner. As a result, I understands the pressures that business owners often have to deal with on a day-to-day basis and factors that into my advice.
