Khalid Shahjahan

Khalid was born in Kent and read Biology with Education at the University of York, graduating in 1999. Changing direction shortly after, he went on to do his postgraduate in law at the University of North London in 2000 followed by his legal practice course at the College of Law in York which he completed in 2001. Initially returning down South to join Barnes & Partners in London (2001 – 2004) where he completed his training contract, Khalid eventually felt the call of the North and returned to Yorkshire in 2004 - working his way up to senior conveyancer at Shulmans Solicitors in Leeds (2004 - 2007) before taking up the role of partner at Spencer Ewin Mulvihill (later Richardson Mulvihill) in Harrogate (2007 - 2013). Eventually with the senior partner retiring, Khalid briefly joined Ashworth Law also in Harrogate (2013) as a director and head of conveyancing with whom Spencer Ewin Mulvihill were in talks with for a merger, before being offered a role as a property consultant at Taylors Solicitors in Boroughbridge transitioning to Coles Solicitors as part of business negotiations between the two firms (2014 - 2017). In 2017, Khalid made the bold move of deciding to work as a senior solicitor and the head of residential property at Parker Rhodes Hickmotts in Rotherham (2017 - 2018), but after accruing over 30,000 miles in commuting alone, Khalid decided he needed to return closer to home. Khalid is now delighted to confirm he has joined renowned law firm Berwins Solicitors in Harrogate, as an associate solicitor and has stated that he is excited by the opportunities that lie before him with growing and developing one of the firm's busiest departments alongside his colleagues from the success it already is to even greater heights - building on the systems already in place, immersing himself into business development and marketing once again whilst of course, doing some fee-earning too! Fluent in Bengali as well as proficient in Hindi & Urdu, Khalid is also an avid fund-raiser, actively having raised money over the years for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund in memory of his mother and treading the boards alongside the talented amateur dramatics charity, Ripon Operatic Society, for which he currently acts as Honorary Secretary.
