Bereavement led to a significant change of financial circumstances, and I needed to fully understand my options and plan for my future.

Soyfur was very clear and patient at gaining an understanding my new financial situation. He took time to explain things I didn't understand, and was able to make me focus on what I wanted to achieve with my finances, and pension options. Soyfur was extremely helpful during my pension review. He immediately put me at ease and I felt extremely comfortable talking to him. We went through my options and he explained everything clearly to me. Although, PenLife wasn't a suitable option for me, I didn't feel like I had wasted his time. I highly recommend PenLife and Soyfur, their values strongly align with mine and I have already sign posted the organisation and Soyfur to friends and colleagues.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My mum has been a client of Pen-Life for more than 25 years. Now, as attorneys for my mum, due to change in ownership of Pen-Life, her adviser is no longer part of Pen-Life, so we were introduced to Soyfur Rahman.

Soyfur has totally reviewed mum's portfolio, both within Pen-Life and outside, to ensure she is getting the best return on her investments, to provide income for her long-term care; whilst being aware of her inheritance tax position. As a result of Soyfur's review, he identified a previously paid-up care insurance plan, which we had not been aware of and he has proposed a strategy going forward which he has helped us to understand very clearly.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We have now successfully claimed under the care insurance plan, which has halved the monthly income drawdown needed from the investments. This was unexpected good news and without Soyfur's detailed financial analysis, we would not have known. As a result, we no longer need to immediately drawdown from the investment to pay for mum's care and can, therefore, look at a different strategy for investment of her portfolio. Although it is early days of our relationship with Soyfur, we get on really well, feel in safe hands and he engages well with us re actions and next steps.

Previous firm had given excellent returns over a couple of decades but had let the fund just "meander" and was losing money as no active involvement from fund manager.

Our investment lost a bit due to the Covid outbreak but that was expected. The investments are starting to climb so all is good. Before the outbreak our investment was doing really well so it was what we were hoping for.

I think the only thing that could have been improved on was maybe a phone call as well as the letter we received to advise about our investment during the pandemic.
