What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was planning to retire and had very little awareness or understanding of costings or processes involved. As a teacher I had AVCs and no idea how to access or manage their transfer for pensionable income. I needed support and Peter was recommended by a family member.

Peter is keen to support, but also develop your understanding of different options and possibilities, so that you reach a more informed decision, a decision ,which is right for you. He looked at my savings, possible income and expenditure. He worked on various options which would sustain my lifestyle as much as possible. Peter broke down the process into sections and ensured that the decision was mine and encouraged me to reflect and identify what was important for me. At no point does he ‘tell’ you to do something. He is informative and ensures you reflect and think through possibilities. Making you aware of all pros and cons. I have learned an awful lot.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

My pension and AVCs are sorted and I am receiving a monthly income. The investments are long term and I am at the beginning of that process. The fact that I now have a financial plan and a retirement route feels great and a huge relief.

What could they have done better?

I believe that there is nothing that could have been improved. It was a huge learning curve for me and his support, guidance and knowledge was invaluable. I could not have done it without him. Communication and accessibility was exemplary. I was encouraged to ask questions, express thoughts and concerns without feeling silly.
