Having paid off my mortgage and my children having left school I wanted to save out of my salary. I set up a free-standing AVC alongside my NHS pension with James' advice. Now, 4 years later, having taken Retire and return from NHS I wanted to make best use of the AVC funds to help to move house.

I think that's a question for the longer term - in the short term the money was moved very efficiently and I was able to take the cash I wanted for the house move.
