I have been a client of Journey for a few years now but initially sought advice on how to better manage my investments and developing a coherent long-term financial plan for my family, with particular reference to funding my children's education and tax planning - ensuring that we were making the most of tax allowances and reliefs.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was looking to get the best return on my pension savings and get a clearer idea on what to do with other savings too.

How has Marco Turrent helped you?

Marco is very human and approachable - he took time to understand my goals (which I thought were unrealistic considering my age now, desired age at retirement and current savings). Once we'd talked that through, he came up with a plan showing my current and projected assets, clearly detailing how I can achieve what I'm hoping to achieve and the timescales involved. It was all put together in a report and he clearly explained each section to me. I really love the company's model - although I don't have a huge amount to invest, I feel my custom is valued by Marco and he made himself completely available.

Most often you see people retiring late, and not able to enjoy the retirement they spent their whole life preparing for. So me and my husband would like to put a plan in place to be able to retire young and so we are still able (and have energy) to do things we would love to do! We needed to speak to Marco to help us put a plan in place!

Me and my husband have different take on financial freedom and attitude towards money. Despite this, Marco is able to work with us together. He listen to us well and really help us work through those concerns constructively. Marco listens, absorbs and then propose a solution that we both would say- Yeah, that makes sense. Marco reviewed my financial situation at the time and drafted a complete financial plan for me, up to when I am planning to retire. He advised me on how much money to save per month, where to invest my money and how much pension I should have to be able to maintain a comfortable lifestyle after I retire. He advised me on the best solutions to ensure that I am not paying too much tax. He was also able to connect me with a company to set up a Will & Testament as well as life cover. Marco also checks up to ensure that I am still staying on track to meet my financial goals and updates my plan as circumstances change.

I received the outcome I was hoping for and so much more.

I really cannot think of a single thing that could be improved. I have really had outstanding support, service, advice and guidance from Marco. I needed some expectation setting and some advice as I believed I was behind on planning. Understanding what I wanted to achieve in my future, it was important to have an honest conversation on how I could get to where I wanted to be at retirement.

How has Marco Turrent helped you?

He listened first and foremost. Asked the right questions and reassured me where I thought I was underperforming. He brainstormed with me, set my expectations, worked with the 'emotional' part of life (that works in tandem with the financial!) and created a plan that was both realistic, ambitious, but achievable.

I'm just at the start of my action plan but Marco put the right effort into advising me and guiding where I can go: I can only see improvements to the plan on the horizon.

Two years ago I wanted to leave my long-term employment and fulfil my dream of starting my own business. Marco worked patiently with me to calculate my current (and future) expenses, assess my discretionary spending, and understand my current investments. That enabled us to plot a lifetime chart of outgoings against income. We then added a cautious estimate of income from my business. Marco then challenged me with a more conservative estimate. The results gave a clear understanding of my financial position and confidence to proceed with my plans. The past year has been more challenging than anticipated, but that exercise has given me peace of mind to know that I should not panic, and I could continue with my plans and ride out the turbulence cause by the pandemic.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We were looking for advice on consolidating various workplace pensions accumulated over the years and how to ensure that our finances were structed in the most tax-efficient way possible for the future. We were also keen to establish JISAs for our children.

How has Marco Turrent helped you?

Marco is extremely approachable; quick and willing to answer all questions (which he does in a clear and intelligible way); and really does go above and beyond to make sure that his clients are happy. Marco has transferred my husband's pensions into a portfolio of funds that is appropriate for our attitude to risk. Having been through the exercise to determine what we is, coupled with the value of Marco's expertise, we have absolute confidence that this money is invested in the best possible place. We now have a robust financial plan in place that is updated at regular interviews - I have found the visual representation of our various 'pots' of money over the years to be really useful and it has given both of us considerable peace of mind. Marco has set up a JISA invested at a different risk level - as appropriate - for our children. We are thankful for the regular updates, open door policy for queries, and for always being greeted in such a genuine and friendly manner (even Zoom meetings are a pleasure) - thank you Marco!

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I looked for a financial adviser as I had moved jobs and wanted to ensure I had a good retirement plan set up via a private pension. I also wanted to ensure my savings were working smart while interest rates are so low.

How has Marco Turrent helped you?

Marco was absolutely fantastic. He explains things in every day langauge and started with the outcome in mind. Marco asked me where I needed to be in 30 years and we worked backwards from there looking at pension plans, savings and mortgage. He is also a realist, he looks at the whole picture of your life and how your finances can work to support that. Finally Marco helped me with the confusion that can be the UK tax system. Marco is knowledgable and approachable, I feel like I am in safe hands when we speak about money. I would recommend without hesitation.

Yes! I was able to achieve my short term goals for the year in 2020 and feel that I have a good set up for my mid-long term goals. I have a low risk approach to finance and Marco was able to find investments that match that whilst still having my money work smart.

He presented things in a simple jargon free way. He then set out a range of options for us to consider. His independent status was a positive. His projections were conservative. We did not feel we were being sold particular products. He assisted us in making a series of changes in our financial plans changing a number of investments including pension funds.

By consolidating them I benefited financially as well as having more control of how I used them alongside my savings. He also advised on tax efficiency.
