Ensuring my pension and other investments are in logical funds that I can access as and when required. Veronica explains things in a way which is easy to understand, will spend time re-explaining in easier terms if I fail to understand the technicalities initially and politely prompts me to keep me on track with my financial arrangements. I have enjoyed the services of an IFA on a fee basis for many years, mainly for advise with insurance and pensions. Having retired and then moved at the start of COVID I needed a new IFA to traverse the hitherto unchartered waters of lifetime mortgage/equity release.

After a detailed fact find and form filling Veronica soon came up with lifetime mortgage proposals from a number of leading providers. . Veronica met and exceeded our very narrow brief of requirements. She is very level headed; a prompt communicator; and is risk averse.

I hate sending documents by the royal mail, form filling and signing. Some documents can be sent, printed , signed and sent back electronically , some cannot. Even from the same source in the same bundle of documents. No one seems to know which they are, until you ask.

I believe that it is actually a year since I formally reviewed Veronica's support for me. Since then, she has continued to review and refine my portfolio, and has encouraged me to find ways of better balancing my income, investments and expenditure. She listens to my questions and concerns with a constructive attitude and gives clear advice, supported by explanation of the development of her views and consideration of areas where uncertainty exists. She has further advised me on the management of the bequest from my Mother after her death earlier this year, and on options for transferring some of my inherited moneys to younger members of the family. Yes, we feel confident that Veronica has looked after our best interests. She has advised and actioned plans to put money in safe havens to provide enough to cover some school and university fees over the next years. Sometimes there is a plethora of forms and a strong measure of bureacracy - this is not something Veronica can do anything about as she has to do due diligence and follow the procedures but if IFAs as a group could lobby for less red tape, that would be good.

She then searched the market and liaised with providers to obtain the best price she could for us.

Veronica helped me sort out my pension, transfer it to another provider and arrange the release of some tax free funds for some projects. We had to deal with a very frustrating and long winded situation with the old provider which went on for months and was extremely frustrating. Veronica kept her cool through the whole process and advised me on the best way to handle it.

Busy working lives meant we did not have time to consider things like inheritance

Short/medium term - yes Long term - we don't know yet but are confident

What could they have done better?

Over the years we have dealt with Veronica through several different companies, which has meant changes of paperwork when a switch has taken place. But nothing stays the same in the financial (or any) business, so we don't mind and are happy with the current organisation.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I felt the Financial Advisor I have been with for many years was not able to give me the one to one attention I needed now as I am a 82 year old widow and like to have details of my finances explained thoroughly.

Veronica Mann is very approachable- I feel comfortable in her company, she does not talk down but explains things in layman terms which, when you are getting older is very important.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We have only been together for a matter of months and I am waiting for some finances to become available when we can start to work together properly.

What could they have done better?

At the moment I can not see anything that Veronica could be doing better than she is

Arranged for consolidation and transfer of pensions. Also arranged transfer of large amount of funds held in cash to be more appropriately invested.

Happy with pension performance. Early days on other investments.

Not sure, as changes in personal circumstances have made planning harder.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was self-employed and needed advice on the best way to organise my finances. On reaching retirement she has helped advise us on the way to get the best out of pensions and investments.

She tried to explain all the different options and the long or short term commitments each plan involved.

We are clear and happy with the recommendations so far. We will be contacting her again shortly with a current investment opportunity and are confident that she will advise us of the best way to invest our money.

To avert Inheritance tax and Capital Gains liabilities relating to my mother's estate.
