He checked out my 3 pensions to see if a transfer would be to my advantage and what kind of fund was best suited to me, up to this point there was no charge for his services. He explained what costs and charges would be incurred once the transfers had been agreed.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, 2 of the transfers have been completed, the third which is from a small company pension and not as straight forward as the first two, will be done early in the new year.

What could they have done better?

I've never used a financial advisor before but I don't think that there is anything more he could have done.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was looking to retire a couple of years early at 63 from a high pressure job as senior I.T Manager. This included reviewing my pension provision and checking early retirement was affordable for my wife and myself. We also wanted the combined pension pot to be under our ownership so eventually the residual pension pot could then be passed onto our son.

How has Christopher Foster helped you?

Christopher did a detailed review of my pensions as well as reviewing our expected annual living costs in lots of detail. I had 19 years worth of a deferred company final salary pension with additional AVC funds as well as my current company Aviva pension. Christopher steered through a complex process to value and transfer out the deferred final salary pension, combining it with my current Aviva company pension. This was invested in a drawdown pension based on our expectations of risk against returns. The pension fund is now under our control and managed effectively by Christopher for us.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes the outcome Is 100% the way we wanted it to go. It was a complex process, especially transferring the final salary pension, and took many months of effort from Christopher and ourselves. We are lot more confident now in our long term financial future, especially when our state pensions start in a couple of years. Christopher is extremely knowledgeable in the financial market and was extremely thorough to the finest point of detail. He understood our situation and needs very well and and worked very professionally to a great outcome.

What could they have done better?

Everything was done extremely well, so nothing for us could have been done better. I would say that Christopher is very approachable yet very professional at the same time. Communication by phone or email was always very prompt, polite and helpful. All I can say is just carry on and do more of the same.

We were cold called which resulted in a home visit however my wife was not convinced the pension advisor was reliable and trustworthy. I called in at Bury Business centre and was introduced to Chris Foster who came out on a home visit and talked through all our options and explained everything in detail and we felt really comfortable and at ease with him.

How has Christopher Foster helped you?

Chris has helped with the transfer of my wife's pension and my own pension into the prudential explaining everything and also the costs involved. He also took all the paperwork away from the previous advisor and reported them to the financial ombudsman as he believed like us we could have been scammed as we were being advised to put all our funds into a project in Cape Verde!

Yes we get regular updates and a yearly visit to inform us how things are progressing at the moment.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I have a personal pension fund, with some restrictions, from a divorce settlement. I do not currently live in the UK, and need an IFA to manage this pension fund. I am also looking to move back to the UK after 10 years and need advice on transfer of assets, both investments, pension funds and cash from property.

How has Christopher Foster helped you?

Chris manages my UK pension fund and is advising according to my initial wishes to have Ethical funds, but has also pointed out alternative options to pursue Ethical investing. He has made some initial suggestions regarding the UK market for investments and regulations/costs involved with property purchase. He will be liaising with me more closely as the move back to the UK proceeds in the next 12 months. It is particularly helpful that he is willing to come to meet with me at my mother's home when I am in the UK, rather than having to go to his office.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, I'm very confident in Chris's ability to advise me according to my best interest, and to do research in areas that he may be unfamiliar with currently.

What could they have done better?

I think Chris is very professional and knowledgeable, but also a good listener and communicator. I have experience of other IFAs who have done their job but no more and have not made me feel like they are tailoring their service to my needs.
