I have been advised by Ellis Bates for many years, when I was looking for advice around Pensions I was strongly advised to meet and discuss my financial needs and circumstances with them. I have since been very impressed by the way in which they have helped and advised me.

I was looking to retire following a period of ill-health. I had private pension pots that only offered annuities which were not flexible enough for what I was wanting to achieve in retirement as I have other incomes from work pension that would come into payment at different times in the future. I didn't have he confidence in myself to deal with this and it was very important that I didn't make mistakes that couldn't be rectified.

How has Amy Burge helped you?

She listened to what I wanted to achieve, took into account my attitude to risk and sought out the best investment options for me. The pension pots I wanted to access were transferred to a financial platform that allowed full flexibility and spread the investments across different products that gave me the best options now and for the future. I would not have been able to achieve this without Amy's help and knowledge of the financial products available.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Very much so. I was able to retire as I had planned and the financial products set up mean that my income has not changed in terms of how much I receive each month. My standard of living has not changed and, by taking some of the tax free lump sums, I have been able to make some changes around my home which will only enhance my retirement. There were a couple of hiccups with one of the pension companies, they delayed the transfer by months and kept sending out requests for further information but this was out of Amy's control. She kept me up-to-date with what was happening and it was eventually resolved.

What could they have done better?

I don't think there was anything Amy could have done better. She is very approachable, friendly but professional. She understood exactly what I was wanting to achieve.

We have been with Ellis Bates ever since. Our previous Financial Adviser, Mike Gent, recommended Amy Burge to replace him after he retired.

Recently, due to international and national conditions, growth of our investments has not been as good as, say, four or five years ago. From our original investments (in 1997) growth had been extremely good but seems to have stalled over the past few years.

Amy was very attentive to the financial details provided to her, and always put my needs and concerns on the forefront. Even though she suggested I wouldn't need further financial advice, she had stayed in the call for an hour and gave some suggestions as to how I could go forward with my financial planning.
