What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

As LPAs for our mother, my brother and I were seeking advice on how to release a funding stream to enable our mother to continue to have 24 hour live-in care in her own home

How has Julie Roche helped you?

She advised on options for releasing a percentage of the capital from our mother's cottage via Equity Release, including to buy a care annuity or a lump sum plus further drawdown, while not forfeiting all existing support from the local authority towards care costs. Julie also advised on possible ring-fencing of a sum owed to myself at the eventual point of sale of the cottage, though we have not done this.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. It has been an extremely lengthy process, but we have been well advised at every stage to ensure the best outcome for our mother.

What could they have done better?

I just occasionally felt that I needed to raise scenarios or think through possible objections in order to find out something that might be crucial in our decision-making rather than this being anticipated. Eg. While Julie helpfully suggested 'ring-fencing' a sum of money owed to me to take it out of consideration for financial assessment by the local authority, it took time to discover that this only applied at the point of inheritance (ie, too late to help my mother) and would involve the Court of Protection.
