Initially assistance with forthcoming pension - especially as at the the time the LTA was in existence - in addition general 'comfort' around investment and financial planning

Yes - as I enter the next 'life stage' I feel well prepared - and now we will turn to inheritance and more detailed financial planning 'during' retirement.

What could they have done better?

Perhaps having an integrated tax return facility within Apogee - this is not down to Stephen (in fact he has directed me to a proficient provider) however to have this in house would save time and ensure alignment.

Dissolvement of a final salary pension scheme

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My first consultation was to obtain recommendations for updating existing pension investments, including a review of what changes were recommended. My second consultation was for advice in advance of what was trailed to be a painful budget, which I expected to have provisions of particular relevance (and disadvantage) to me.

By answering questions prepared by me in advance of meetings with him and providing his opinion as to likely changes to the legal framework governing pensions and inheritance tax. He has also been in direct contact with my solicitors by telephone to provide information direct to them for speed and accuracy.

I have been happy with his advice. He seems in complete command of the subjects on which I consulted him.

What could they have done better?

Very little. The only point that comes to mind arises because I am a solicitor and perhaps slightly more knowledgeable than the average person about some of the topics we discussed. I did stress that I wanted to be treated as a complete novice and ignoramus and he did for the most part tailor his advice, (diplomatically!) in that way but occasionally assumed I had knowledge of something when I did not. But that is something I have often experienced with other professionals and for the most part Stephen did not fall into that trap.

Retirement and investment advice.
