I originally dealt with a Financial Advisor ( pension and investment advice) who died in 2012. Luke had been working for this individual and subsequently took over the client portfolio. Initially Luke was involved in " firefighting" for clients as a number of the previous IFAs investment recommendations had failed resulting in FSCS claims which Luke assisted with.

Following Luke assuming advisory control of my investment /pension investments I decided initially to stay as a client and see how the relationship developed. I have found Lukes recommendations to be sound both in terms of cost and growth opportunities .He fully understands my risk appetite and I have full confidence in his recommendations albeit we still discuss in detail each investment

Overall yes. I have been very impressed particularly with the pension investment recommendations which are extremely well thought through. Luke is conservative in approach but not risk averse in his recommendations .My investment portfolio has evidenced solid growth each year.

What could they have done better?

I struggle with this question. I can only state that I have dealt with 5/6 previous Financial advisors over the years to include some high profile private banks. My experience with Hartley Ross to date has been far superior.

I realised that I had not undertaken sufficient financial planning to ensure that my pension pot was well looked after and would meet my needs in retirement.

Luke completely took on board my attitude to risk and during our initial in-depth meeting carefully reviewed and discussed my plans for the future and along with my current financial status and lifestyle. When he came to me with his recommendations, the products he was suggesting were clearly and very patiently described and he made clear how these could support my plans. Luke was also very clear about the risks and the pros and cons of his suggestions.

Yes. I have a very real sense of security and satisfaction that my precious and limited funds are doing the best they can to support me into the future.

What could they have done better?

Hand on my heart, not a thing. Luke has been available over and above what could be expected. Always willing to explain some detail, yet again, he has been able to do so without making me feel not quite with it - something I have hugely appreciated. I can't thank him enough!

not being too well versed in financial matters and unsure how to place money in various institutions I needed expert tuition and advice to proceed with these matters.

peace of mind, he always does what he says he is going to do and handles all my financial affairs, I am sure, to the best of his ability. As far as I know, he knows what he is talking about, even if something or sometimes the advice he gives me is a little bit over my head. He always explains things to me. And nothing is too much trouble for him. He is very reliable and always returns calls if he is dealing with someone or something else.

not too sure about that, everything he has done as far as I am concerned has been in my best financial interest. (No one can make pigs fly)

Help with understanding the complexities of financial planning as I consider having children, consolidating debts and savings and investments to help with my security in later life. Also, to make sure that I am making choices that will set me up well in later life, but not being overly cautious or compromising living well today as a result. Professional, prudent but informed advice and experience seemed essential to giving me that clarity and reassurance

It was really helpful and I feel better informed, more assured and able to be more more proactive and decisive about taking financial decisions as well as empowered to have honest, clear-sighted financial conversations that can often feel complex and difficult with close family but which are really important in understanding what individual financial circumstances will look like down the road

Bought me lunch - but it was on Zoom, so to be fair that wasn't an option on this occasion.

Luke explained very clearly how I could invest safely my savings and I was very impressed by his professionalism . He totally understood my situation and suggested various options.

I was looking for a financial adviser to understand the different types of investments and to understand pensions and taxation better.

How has Luke Hartley helped you?

Luke firstly spent a lot of time educating me on investments and the pros and cons of each and helping me understand my own attitude to risk. Then he helped me plan for my life goal of early retirement using a mix of ISAs SIPP Workplace Pension and LISA creating a report which showed me scenarios and showed me that I might even be able to retire sooner than I hoped.

Absolutely I've seen a large uplift in my portfolio since amending my approach and on an emotional level knowing I am on the right track certainly gives me peace of mind to focus on running my business. Having a phone a friend for financial product questions really helps too and helps me stop making rash emotional decisions which have cost me in the past.

What could they have done better?

Honestly Ive loved the service Luke has given can't fault it.

trusting someone who is much more financially aware/savvy than I am, to help me in my financial journey through life with all the ups and downs that occur, and to help me deal with all the problems that life throws at me, specifically my financial responsibilities.

someone I have absolute trust in,(which I think is the most important thing) being on the end of a telephone if I need to discuss any financial matter, he is always available to speak and if you can't speak to him straight away will always get back to me. He helped, and calmed me down when my previous F.A. passed away and took over his fiscal responsibilities/duties towards me.

so far so good, Lukes's intentions are the best I am sure for all his clients.

I initially contacted Luke with the intention of starting a private pension.

Luke discussed my goals with me and took the time to understand my position. He recommended that rather than just focussing on my pension alone, it might be helpful to do some cash flow modelling in order for me to better understand what was and wasn’t realistic and what I had to do in order to retire at a certain age. He was incredibly detailed in his approach, modelling my whole retirement, which then put me in a better position to consider pension choices and other savings strategies.

Yes, it’s been really easy to see the progression of my pension via the app and the regular updates from Hartley Ross, including their print magazine are genuinely helpful.
