What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I wanted to invest my finances ethically and work with a financial advisor who not only shared my commitment to responsible investment but could also educate me on managing my finances, understanding that numbers aren’t my strong suit. Patience and a non-condescending approach were essential. I initially asked friends for recommendations but didn’t find the right fit, so I turned to Ethical Consumer, where I found Haydon.

Over 20 years ago I realised I needed to sort out my financial affairs and get professional advice. Back then, a friend recommended a small ethical investment firm, but after several merges that firm became very large and impersonal. Haydon had previously 'jumped ship' from that firm, and I was ready to consider other options.

Haydon was able to offer sound advice when I was made redundant, with issues such as my pension including making tax savings via a private pension. He has also managed my ISAs and general investment account. He is very approachable, and easy to contact for one-off queries. He's great at explaining complex issues and no question is too stupid.

So far so good. I appreciate the in-person annual reviews, and Haydon always seems to remember my situation and background. I trust his judgement and understand that I need to be patient with investments.
