I find Ed very easy to understand , enthusiastic , bright and easy to talk with. He explains things calmly and listens to what I have to say. Communication is excellent with prompt replies to emails and telephone calls. I enjoyed having Ed in my home and nothing seems too much trouble. During our initial meeting & in the days before I became a client of Ed's he cheerfully and diligently helped me with advice that could not wait as I had hit upon a potential stumbling block in my planning. I was unsure about whether my particular situation was something a financial advisor could help with and was a bit daunted by all the variables of my position when I approached Ed for advice. Ed was fantastic at talking through everything with me. He made me feel completely comfortable, he was informed and engaged and clearly explained everything in a way that made it easy for me to make sense of. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I've been looking after my pensions myself for the last 30 years + but felt that it was time to get some professional advice / management especially as I'm getting closer to retirement and my gut feel was no longer good enough plus the complexities of pensions was moving further away from my own ability to keep up. We'd approached some IFAs who were a little "close" minded re choice of platforms and funds (you must move to ....) but Sylvan and Ed looked first as to whether the choice was available in my current pension provider and whether the value was better or not, meaning in my case Sylvan and Ed are looking after funds with my current provider rather than transferring out to an AJ Parry or equivalent. I'm cautious, detailed and process driven by nature and its important that the people and professions I work with match my own ways of working / personality.

How has Ed Painter helped you?

Ed initially did a one off review of all of our pensions (myself and wife), defined benefit, final salary, private & public sector bringing all information together all for a set one off fee. At the same time we provided a set of lifestyle facts about when we'd like to retire and what that would look like - OK scenario, good case & aspirational. Ed took all this and did a cash flow analysis as well as giving much valued advice along the way. Following this initial piece of work we've now engaged Sylvan and Ed as our IFA for regular management with annual fees making changes to fund selections to balance apetite for risk with growth. Being in control of our pensions for so long made finding and selecting an IFA quite a difficult choice but Ed's honest and open approach wanting to do the right thing rather than oversell / promote helped us make the decision. Also (but secondary) Sylvans charges were reasonable and clear, well documented compared to others I've seen. Not a compelling reason for our decision but it all helps.

It's too early to say as we've only just started, but the initial advice has been good and relationship positive. I'm certainly feeling more comfortable now that a.n.other is involved and a pension specialist who is knowledgable and enthusiastic about his specialism and business,

For the moment nothing, perhaps would have been nice to have a sense of the broader firm (I've met Ed primarily) but I'm sure that will dvelop over time.

Ed is incredibly patient and clear in his approach, and very knowledgeable in what he does. He has been my parents' financial adviser for some time and we very much look forward having him deal with our finances too. He provided a free of charge initial consultation, which felt very generous given his expertise. It is also refreshing to see a tech led business in a perceptibly old fashioned industry - their online portal for storing docs and info will be very helpful
