What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

As part of my retirement planning, I was looking for an adviser to manage my pension fund investments before and after I retired.

Alan listens before providing appropriate advice. I have really appreciated Alan's empathy balancing my peace of mind with potential financial benefit. In particular, he understood my reasons for taking a tax free sump sum a little early, The resultant benefit, for me, more than trumped the reduction in potential fund growth. It has been great to have an advisor who understands my perspective whilst providing everything I require to make informed decisions.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We first looked for an IFA because we wanted advice on consolidating various pension plans and getting organised for the future.

Alan regularly reviews the performance of our pension portfolios and also our attitude to risk. His ongoing service has helped take the worry of investment choices away from us and achieve adequate retirement funds for our future.

I received an inheritance in 2017.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was planning to retire from full time work and needed advice on my company pension scheme. Alan was recommended to me by a friend who had also used him for pension advice.

Alan helped me to understand the complexities of the Lifetime Allowance and what my options were regarding my company pension. Since I retired he has assisted me with the investment of funds from my pension pot.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

My pension funds have grown steadily over the years (obviously subject to market fluctuations). Alan has also been very helpful in enabling me to access and drawdown funds when required. He has also provided other advice when requested, such as estate planning.

What could they have done better?

Alan is always very careful to follow his client's appetite for risk. At one point I wanted to move all my investments to cash as I thought this would be a low risk option, but as it turned out I missed out on potential growth - so perhaps he could have been more robust in his advice at that point.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Widowhood
